PITCH
FOLLOWING ALEKS
Do you know that nearly one-third of adolescent girls who drop out of high school cite early pregnant or parenthood as a key reason?
Do you know that les than 38% of adolescents in low-income communities have had a preventative care visit in the last year?
We want to follow some soldiers that fight agains this precarious situation. They are all students. Our main character will be Aleksandra, a senior student from Eastern Europe. She has been in this project during three years and she has a lot of experience and stories to tell. She comes from a place where the health is free for everyone and it was a culture shock.
We are following Aleksandra Ratkiewicz, a volunteer of Peer Health Exchange. This is the fourth year she participates in this project. She visits schools (in a difficult situation) with an aim: empower young people with the knowledge, skills, and resources to make healthy decisions.
But she is not the only character. We will talk with some of the other volunteers, whom will explain all the experiences and difficulties they find during their volunteer.
We will stay in their meetings, where they discuss about the last visits and together, they try to improve. We will also see the formation activities and a real class (permission required, we still need the answer — another possibility is to film only the student’s back).
So, Aleksandra and all the volunteers we interview will be hour stars. What’s more, I do not only want to follow them, later I want to make some questions (reflexive questions) that motivates a reflective audience.
We will see how the volunteers change the life of these young people who has no access or difficult acces to health. I hope audience will realize how important is the knowledge of the health and sex issues. And discuss: Should the government do it instead of the collegues?
